A great way to start to the new academic year – with a computing leads update.
A busy day was planned: having rolled out our new Office365 email we heard from Ian Mills about the other features that schools could start to think about using. We spent time sharing good practice across each others schools and had time to look at resources to support computing.
We heard an inspirational talk from Devonshire Road school about their blogging success and the importance of giving the children a real purpose to write for -thank you.
In the afternoon we heard from Mark Capaldi the head of computing at Sharples Secondary as to what their expectation would be from our year6s.
Then the fun began: Collaborative learning using office365 online apps; games based learning and Lego WeDo & Mindstorm .
If you attended this session would be great to hear your feed back .
Today we sent Mrs Lyons and Mr Mills from BoltonSICT to Lostock Primary . Their mission was to introduce reception, year1 and year5 classes to programming. They took their iPads so the pupils could use Purplemash -the younger pupils used 2Go and year 5 used 2Code, they spoke new computer science language – algorithm, blocks of codes and debugging. The lessons went too quickly, everyone enjoyed the lessons..
In the video below you can see us all hard at work.
Here are some highlights of our second Hands On Purplemash Day, forty delegates came together to share what’s new, purple mash supporting English collaborative learning and of course 2Code the whole day gave opportunity for lots of hands on !
If you attended the day, please leave your feedback.
