SIMS & FMS Upgrade Guide

Introduction

Three times a year Capita release updates for both SIMS and FMS, the updates generally occur a month or so before a school census is required, due to changes needed in SIMS to complete the school census. Schools will be told the evening the upgrades will occur and the guidelines below should explain the process and what to do should it not go according to plan.

The Process

The updates are a two step process and are outline below.

Step 1 – The school server and required databases are updated overnight.  This is completed by the Schools ICT unit via the SOLUS 3 client installed on the server.

Step 2 – The following morning when SIMS and FMS is first run, they should automatically update to the latest version.  Occasionally this does not occur or there is a problem with the server/database update.

Possible problems and solutions

  1. At this point its recommend you log a call with the Schools ICT Unit or ask your onsite if he happens to be in school.

FMS Won’t Update or Run

  1. Click the start menu located at the bottom left of the screen – select All Programs – SIMS Applications – FMSSQL and left click SIMS FMS Module
  2.
